Volume 9, Issue 7

Jennifer Phillips, a missionary who served 8 years in Romania and is now serving in Africa, recently made these observations about her experiences in both countries:

“There are blessings in the “lack”. I see that what I consider as lacking to them is only more space for the Lord to fill. If we never see need, we will never feel compassion to give. If we never experience pain, we will never desire to ease another who is in pain. I see such a huge difference in cultures and I fear that America is really the one in need. It is so easy to live in comfort because we are not surrounded by need. Of course, it depends on where one lives. However, I think for the children the ones in need are more greatly filled by the Lord. Not that I want the kids I adore in America ever to lack anything; I just hope they will get to experience the joy of giving of themselves. And the kids I adore in Romania and Africa, I want to give them everything they don’t have. However, it is beyond me or any person. I will do my part but I see that it is enough because the Lord can multiply and bless it; what I do, what you do back home, what everyone does who is led by the Spirit.”
