Become a Global Hope Godparent!

You can be an answer to prayer for one of the neediest children in the world today by becoming a Global Hope Godparent.  As a Godparent, the most important gift you give is the love the child will feel when you pray for them, when you send letters to them, and when you visit them.  Plus, your Godchild will be secure in the knowledge that they are sponsored and will have a safe place to live, with adults who care for them, and with regular meals.  You can sign up to become a Godparent and sponsor a child using the form below and someone will contact you and send you a child packet. As a Godparent, you commit to three things…

1. Pray

We ask that you pray for your child as often as possible. Your child’s packet will give you information about their circumstances, family of origin, orphanage, town, and country–all all of which will help you pray for your child.

2. Write

Using the Write  link, you can use our web site to write your child as often as you’d like. We ask that Godparents try and send a message to their child about once a month. Say things to your child like, “I am proud of your hard work in school!” You may be one of the only encouraging voices in their lives.

3. Support

Each Godparent commits to a $35/month sponsorship relationship that provides a child with many benefits. Your donations will enable us to hire in-country staff who will care for your children every day, and will provide for the basic necessities of life, including food, shelter, security, medical care, and education.  We will  facilitate the letter writing exchange program, and will visit the orphanage where your child lives at least once every year to help your Godchild’s caregivers to ensure your child is thriving.

To get started, all you have to do is fill out the form below, tell us about yourself, and choose a boy or girl living in one of our ministry locations.  After we receive your request, someone will get in touch with you shortly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are Global Hope Godparents so important?

A Global Hope Godparent is someone who has made the decision to create a personal relationship in the life of a child. For the child, this relationship strengthens the knowledge that they are loved and cared for, especially for those that have been abandoned or orphaned.  Godparents in the Global Hope community gain a deeper understanding of the difference that they are making in the lives of their sponsored children by developing a long-term relationship with the child through letter writing, prayer and personal visits. Semi-annual updates from the staff of Global Hope or from the child themselves will help Godparents gain a better understanding of the child’s community, culture, and personal interests.

Godparents provide long-term and sustainable funding so that Global Hope can know that the support we provide for each child will be consistently provided. It allows Global Hope to confidently grow the number of children we can provide care for, without endangering our ability to continue providing for those already in our care.

What does it cost to become a Godparent and what does it provide?

It costs $35 per month to become a Global Hope Godparent.  When you choose to become a Godparent your support provides for your Godchild’s necessities such as adult care, education, medical care, clothing, and food.

Your commitment provides for more than just your child’s physical needs – you will also develop a long lasting relationship with your Godchild through regular letter writing. You have the opportunity to impact your Godchild’s life by providing emotional support, positive encouragement and by the sharing of your faith. You will receive semi-annual updates on your child’s progress and periodic Global Hope newsletters.

What happens to the child I’m helping if I cannot continue being a Godparent?

If you need to discontinue your support, we will immediately look for a new Godparent for your child and continue that child’s support without interruption.

If I sign up to become a Global Hope Godparent, how long will my support be required?

The Global Hope Godparent program usually offers you the opportunity to continue sponsoring  a child for a number of years, and can continue through the time the child graduates from high school. You may wish to continue your sponsorship at that time to help with the expenses associated with learning a trade or attending college. The choice is yours. We hope that you will be able to continue as a Global Hope Godparent indefinitely, although we recognize that Godparents’ circumstances sometimes change. You may elect to stop being a Godparent at any time.

Please understand that there are times when a child’s circumstances change and Global Hope children may have to leave our Godparent program.  While this happens rarely, it has happened in the past when sponsored children are adopted by a family in their home country, or when a relative of the child decides to become the primary care-giver.  If this happens with your Godchild,  we will inform you as quickly as possible if any such circumstance affects the child you sponsor, and we’ll offer you the opportunity to support another child in need of your help.

Is it important to pray for the child I am sponsoring?

Prayer is an important  link between sponsors and the children they help. Your prayers for the health, safety, education and spiritual development of your child are critical.  Sponsored children are greatly encouraged when they hear that their sponsors are praying for them. We hope that you will pray for your Godchild as often as possible. You might wish to use the information in your child’s profile to help guide your prayers for his or her personal situation, the orphanage or foster family in which they live, as well as their community and country.

Remember that your Godchild is being encouraged to pray for you, too. As your relationship grows you will begin to discover a deeper connection through your prayers for each other.

How often will Global Hope update me on my Godchild?

Global Hope will send you semi-annual updates about your Godchild’s progress, and periodic newsletters. You’ll also be able to track the entire Global Hope community through our web page, www.globalhope.org, and through our Facebook page, www.facebook.com/GlobalHope.org. Through these tools, you will grow to understand the cultures of the areas where Global Hope provides support and the daily life of the children and the staff.

We also encourage you to visit your Godchild on a Global Hope mission trip. You can find out more about Global Hope Mission opportunities here.

How can I send letters to my Godchild?

Global Hope provides a form on this web page that allows you to write letters your Godchild.  You can find that form here.

Using the on-line tool will be the fastest, least expensive, and most reliable way for us to forward your letter to your Godchild.

You may also send a letter to your child by mailing it to Global Hope, P.O. Box 1052, Broomfield, CO 80038. enclose your name, your sponsored child’s name and reference number.

Global Hope will translate your letter, if necessary, and deliver it to your Godchild.  We encourage you to send your Godchild a personal, family, or group photograph and a short letter of introduction. You may write to your Godchild as often as you like. Writing letters helps the child develop a sense of well-being, and helps them grow in their reading and writing skills. The more you write to your Godchild, the more he or she will benefit from your relationship.

How often should I write to my Godchild?

We hope that you will try and send a message to your child about once a month. When you write, encourage their hard work in school, their creativity, and be excited about the things they are learning and doing. Remember that you may be one of only a small number of positive voices they hear, and that your emotional support will have lasting effects.

What should I write about in my letters?

Write about the things you enjoy doing, your hobbies and interests, interesting places you have visited, things you hope to do in the future. Share your walk with Christ with your Godchild. Your letter doesn’t need to be long, just one page is great, and include pictures of your family!

When writing your letters please don’t make any promises you can’t keep, don’t promise to visit them “sometime”, or say that you hope they will visit you. To protect your privacy, don’t include personal information like your phone number, address, or financial information.

Will my Godchild write to me?

Depending on the age and capabilities of your Godchild, your child may write to you. Young children who have not learned to write or disabled children who cannot write will communicate to you through our  staff. Children who can write will be encouraged to answer as many of your letters as possible.

May I send gifts to my Godchild?

Our hope is that letter writing will be the main source of interaction with your Godchild. However, if you would like to send a small monetary gift to your child, our in-country staff will purchase a gift with the money you send, and give the gift to the child on your behalf and make certain that these funds are used appropriately. So that none of our children are singled out for special treatment, we ask that Godparents keep these gifts modest, between $10 and $25 each and limit their gift giving to twice a year at Christmas or for a birthday.

Should I pray for my Global Hope Godchild?

Absolutely! The most important thing you can do for your Godchild is pray for them. Please pray for your Godchild’s normal development, their self-confidence, their sense of well-being, their health and safety, the development of their faith lives, and their success in school. Your Godchild will probably be praying for
you, too!
