We recently received this sad news from Spring Valley Children’s Center:
Dear partners and friends, it is with great sadness that we announce that our dear teacher Basil who was the class teacher of grade 8 and the Math teacher of grade 5 to grade 8, went to be with the Lord on Monday August 21st after a short illness.
Teacher Basil joined Spring Valley school after retiring from teaching in various good schools across the country. During his retirement from public teaching, Tr. Basil fell in love with the children of Spring Valley after he joined Spring Valley church and decided to come out of retirement and teach our children. Teacher Basil has been a member of staff in Spring Valley since 2011 and has been a very hardworking and dedicated Math teacher in the school. Teacher Basil assisted in improving the average of Math in the school, from a D grade in 2011 to a B+ grade by 2021. Math was the highest performed subject in our grade 8 national examinations in 2021 and the most improved subject in the school, thanks to his dedication and hard work.
Teacher Basil was a great mentor to the children and staff members as he led an exemplary Christian life and loved the word of God. Teacher Basil always came to work very early in the morning to tutor his math students and to make sure they understood all they were taught. He really loved the children and went out of his way to encourage them, mentor them, and tutor them. Teaching the children Math and the word of God was his greatest passion. Teacher Basil will be greatly missed and it is a great heavy loss for our school fraternity and church.
Please keep his family, the staff and the children (especially the grade 8 students) in your prayers as we lay him to rest this weekend and come to terms with this loss.
