The children of Spring Valley had a fabulous day because they got to enjoy sugar cane with their lunch. It has been very hot in Kenya especially in the afternoons and the harvested sugarcane is a wonderful natural energy booster on a hot day for the children. Sugarcane also contains carbohydrates, protein, vitamins A, B-complex & C and minerals like phosphorous, calcium, potassium, zinc, iron, fiber and antioxidants.
Our wonderful students who come from very poor backgrounds and joined the school while suffering from malnourishment really need a variety of natural organic foods including fruits to make them healthy and strong. We are so grateful and excited that pastor Stanley and Tr. Alice made it possible for the children to enjoy sugar cane with their lunch of ugali (corn meal), kale mixed with spinach and they looked alert and full of energy and laughter after lunch.
